Promises to me, are Plans

Today’s prompt is promise. I avoid making promises. Apart from the promises I made to my parents to take care of them in old age, I don’t remember breaking any promises or making any. If I made promises to you and you’re reading this, remind me because I probably forgot. I forget things I promise so it’s one of the reasons I don’t promise.

Love

However I am pretty sure I won’t forget my marriage vows. Anything else apart from that falls in the calendar and is called plans.

I am a guarded person. I probably have places in my life I have never let people into. Inasmuch as I share a lot and have a lot of friends, there are  certain aspects of me that are guarded. However this doesn’t make me have any less fun.

In my opinion. it’s better to not make a promise rather than not keep it. This way no one gets their feelings hurt or expectations crushed. If you’re making someone promise anything, make sure to explain your expectations to them. A lot of people get crushed when their expectations are crushed, when they didn’t communicate them in the first place!

It’s also unfair to make someone promise when they are between a rock and a hard place, or such that it feel burdensome. Promises should be made out of love and commitment such that actualizing them doesn’t feel like a chore.

I’m just going to stop here and say I can’t say a lot when it comes to promises. Promises to me are plans. Plans go to the calendar, then they buzz my alarm, I remember them and then I get the friend of the year award, Okay?
What’s your take on promises? Have you broken any?  Let me know in the comments.
Love,S.

I agree. I can’t make promises. My special needs husband gets too excited and if I forget it crushes him.

So it’s best to make plans than promises right?

Haha this is so true. I forget things so easily. I have to have google remind me to do stuff. I put things on my calendar and in my todo list. You’re so right. They are plans at that point. Not promises!
