Welcome to the 13th day of Love Blog 2019. Today’s prompt is Changes.
Yesterday I was looking back to where my life was an year ago. February 2019 and a lot has changed. There has been significant changes in my life such as;
- Finishing school.
- Moved to a new city.
- I have worked 4 jobs; Freelanced, had a writing internship, Electral Muscle Stimulation trainer (Electric weight loss), Social Media Internship to my current job as a Digital Content Specialist.
- Directed a film that was shortlisted and selected for screening.
- Self hosting my site.
Needless to say that I haven’t spent much time with my family, apart from my sister as we live together, and my brother who visits us from time to time. Our parents live in another town and I haven’t spent a lot of time with them in the midst of all these changes though we talk a lot on the phone and see each other on short durations.
In the midst of all these changes I am a very different person to the person I was last year. I have grown so much and I am happy.
Responding to Unexpected Changes
One expected change that has come this year is that my grandma fell ill. She suffered a minor stroke and I bowled my eyes out during that 4 hour drive from her place to mine. She’s my favourite person. If you have read The River and The Source by Margaret Ogola, then grandma is Akoko in terms of love, zeal, dedication, intelligence and hard-work.
Since September, 2018 a lot happened where I felt wronged and taken for granted and just when I was starting to feel some kind of relief, she fell sick.
I am an emotional person. In as much as I will try to evaluate circumstances logically, it’s hard for me to hide my love, excitement, disappointment, displeasure or hurt. I don’t even try to.
How to Cope With Unexpected Changes.
Reach out to friends, family or strangers. This is what I did. I reached out to a stranger. I would not call her a stranger because she’s of the body of Christ though we have never met. But she and others listened and helped me cope. Nowadays I strive to be who that lady was to me to another person.
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10
There are no strangers, only friends you’ve never met.
Take leave from work if you need to comprehend or assess the situation. You cannot function in distress. You are bound to make more mistakes if you are distressed and your thoughts are scattered. I took a day off to come to terms and relax.
Do what you need to do to stay sane, and at peace. It might mean to put yourself first and show up for yourself. Cancel meetings if you have to or plans.
Pray. Our heavenly Father has seen the end from the beginning. He knows it all and He doesn’t hide Himself to tease us.
The Changes I am Making to My Life.
Editing anyone or anything that doesn’t spark joy in me out of it.
Reading more books and listening to podcasts on Spiritual and financial maturity. I would love to tell you that I have figured this out but not yet. Every day I learn something new about myself and work to change it.
Working on goals I want to achieve before my 23rd birthday this year.
Working on my site to be a resourceful little place for people: writers, fashionistas, travellistas, bloggers and all things faith.
What changes have you experienced and which one’s do you seek to make? Let me know in the comments.
