Mindless Tasks To Do When You Don’t Feel Like Writing

I just paused reading Brene Brown’s The Gifts Of Imperfection: Let Go Of Who You Think You’re Supposed To Be and Embrace Who You Are. I forced myself to pause and write this post. That’s how much I’m enjoying the book. Coming from a 2-hour nap to jump into my writing, this article almost didn’t make it as I wasn’t feeling like writing. Reading Brown’s book, however, gave me the motivation I needed to write.

Between revamping this blog last year, writing, editing, life, work and living, I have had a lot of blog fatigue. I have managed to optimise my writing by proofreading and checking my spelling with Grammarly, marketing with tailwind and Pinterest or just reading other people’s blogs and commenting on them.

Read A Book

Reading a book is empowering. Reading on a topic you’ve actually been wanting to write, a book you couldn’t wait to get your hands on is so satisfying. Whenever you don’t feel like writing, make some hot chocolate, read a book and you might find material for your next 10 articles or quotes in that book.

Research on Keywords

I am currently focusing on SEO and Pinterest as the main sources of traffic for my site. When I don’t feel like writing, I research for the next article by looking for promising keywords through KWSfinder and LSI graph. KWSfinder gives shows you keywords you can rank for while LSI graph gives you supporting keywords for that article.

Market Your Blog Instead of Writing

Writing is one thing, marketing is another. Did you know that comments count as backlinks? I found this out a while ago while researching on SEO and yesterday, a top traffic guru also mentioned it on her site!

If you have no blogs to comment on, Pinterest is a goldmine. You can research for blogging ideas and if you find a well-written post, give that blogger a complement.

Your blog is not an island.

Alternatively, you can make 17 pins for your most performing blog post on Pinterest and watch your traffic grow. I am not that proactive so I try and make a minimum of 5 pins per every published blog post.

Practice Some Selflove

Go slow on the grind and decompress a bit. Self-love means different things to different people. From an hour of Netflix to journaling or exercise; choose your definition and roll with it.

I have had days and weeks where I took a break from personal writing, resolving to write for work purposes alone as I recharged. On those days, I still read on Medium and kept up with writers I follow.


Practice kindness on yourself. You don’t have to stick it out when you don’t feel like it. Take a step back.
