3 Most Important Facebook Groups To Be Part Of As a Kenyan Writer

I’m in these groups so they are tried and tested.

Medium Mastery

Agnes Louis introduced me to this group after I came back from my medium sabbatical. It’s a group of Medium writers who post their work daily on the group in a thread called the ‘Daily Applause’ while assisting each other as writers.

The group has rules which are strictly followed (this I love), it’s an active group and Medium writers ready to help and answer any questions you might have.

If you are struggling to gain visibility and make friends on Medium, I cannot recommend this group enough. The daily threads will help you discover new publications, articles, and writers while making new writer friends.

From the group, I have discovered Brian Rowe whose Medium Partner Program updates and writing advice has helped me quite a bit.

Medium Writers Of The East-Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe

As a writer from Kenya, I understand what writers from similar timezones are going through. For example, the daily thread on Medium Friends might be posted at odd hours and when you make it to adding your link, it can get swallowed by other links. Or the MPP estimates that show hours later due to different time zones.

That’s why Celine Lai created this group tailored to ACP writers. The group is fairly new and still gaining ground.

As the name suggests, the group is for women. Women work aims to support working women. Whether employed, entrepreneurs, soloprenuers or business owners, WomenWorkKe has a diverse range of working women in Kenya and abroad seeking to equip, inspire, find a market for their businesses, make new friends or get jobs.

What I love about the group is:

  • BiasharaTuesday (TradeTuesday)

Here, everyone can promote their work/products on a weekly Tuesday thread, ask for job positions or post job positions.

  • 2H2L

This is high, help, learning and low. On this weekly Friday thread, members post their high(s) of the week, their learning (s), areas they need help and the low(s) of the week. Although I have never participated or shared my 2H2L, I’m always looking to read and share help when I can.

  • Inspiration posts and Thursday Tribe Tales

The future in Africa is female. Thursday Tribe Tales celebrates phenomenal women doing great work across the African continent. Whether female leaders, women founders or female entrepreneurs, this Thursday thread celebrates them and shares insights from them as well.

  • Empowering Monthly Events

Almost every monthly, there is a poll in which members vote on the areas of growth they’d like to meet, discuss or have a person with authority share insights. The poll is based on key issues raised in the group, therefore the group serves the needs of the members through events, networking and connecting members to professionals in those areas.

Overall, Medium Friends and WomenWorkKe are groups that have really helped me. I have attended Women Work events on entrepreneurship and personal finance and I must say it’s a great group to be in. When you join the groups you’ll be welcomed and you’ll soon find how inspiring and resourceful these groups are.
