A Lipstick and a Dress – Fashion is My Writer’s Monthly Salary

Some time ago, I wrote about how I shopped for jewellery at a popular online store. This post was quite popular because it’s not popular for writers to do this with their earnings.

Our writing salary goes to more important things like bills, writing equipment or stationery. A week before people started taking Corona seriously, I decided to go for a photoshoot because it’s on my list of things to do in 2020.

Here’s Why Going For A Photo Shoot is Important

  1. It helps you get comfortable in front of a camera.
  2. It gets you out of your comfort zone.
  3. It can be really uplifting to look at photos of you, especially when you have feelings of low self-worth. Remind yourself that you have amazing features coupled with an amazing personality. The world is lucky to have you in it.
  4. Introduce yourself to your readers. People want to see the person behind the words.

How My Shoot Turned Out

I had only one outfit with minimal makeup, although my red lipstick was screaming.

This image says I’m a professional writer and marketer. I know what I do. The focus is on my face and the jewellery which makes it even better.

For this one, I wanted to use the concept of lines to bring out my legs and calves. I think it turned out okay.

In the next photograph, we looked for a staircase, well, kinda. Tall people don’t know what to do with their long-form or their hands so a staircase serves as a great prop. Try and elongate your legs for a better pose. If you don’t know how to pose, work with shapes, sizes, props and avoid slouching.

For the last one, I wanted to get a closer view of my dreadlocks while looking into the distance; and still using the concept of lines.
