Blogging has been such an uphill task, made so by the fact that mine is a lifestyle blog. I tend to write more personal articles than how-to and listicles. In addition, I dabble in writing and blogging, travel, faith and fashion. This makes it harder as mine is a one-man-show and I have to be wise about where I spend my time. I chose Pinterest and it has paid off. If you spend time on the platform, you eventually learn the Pinterest strategies that work and those that are a bit outdated.
If you have a multi-faceted blog, you might have hard that it’s difficult to monetize or build traffic. However, it doesn’t have to be. Pinterest has made it easy for bloggers to get traffic without waiting for Google bots to crawl their sites.
You can start getting traffic a day after you build your blog through social media. Seeing 3 people reading your content via Google Analytics feels so good. As traffic becomes more consistent, you’ll see your efforts pay off.
Here are 6 Key Pinterest Strategies To Get Your Traffic Started
1. Have a Pinterest Business Account
It’s important to create a Pinterest business account or change your current account to business, then put unnecessary boards like ‘my dream wedding’ on private.
With a Pinterest business account, you can sign up for rich pins, which in turn enable Pinterest to send you traffic to your site.
2. Claim Your Site
You can do this by adding a piece of code to your site or using Yoast SEO. Honestly, for me, neither of these worked the first time. I couldn’t claim my site through code or Yoast.
After a lot of back and forth with Pinterest, they directed me to ask my Web providers to check the servers. Turns out this is where the problem was and I was able to claim my site after months of trying!
3. Have a Minimum of 15–20 Boards
The rest is just clutter and can be put on private. You can also merge similar boards together. They will still exist but as sections of a different board. For example, you can merge the board beauty with fashion, then rename as Fashion and Beauty.
If you have boards on makeup, manicure, pedicure, jewellery and other similar boards, you can add them to Fashion and Beauty.
The idea is to remember is that Pinterest is less of a social media platform and more of SEO for dummies platforms. Each of these boards has to be SEO optimized, so having a 100 of them is not pretty. Your Pinterest strategies won’t count much if you have 200 boards that are not SEO optimized.
4. Pinterest Boards SEO
A board like manicure and pedicure should be complete with a board description and an accurate title. ‘Manicure and Pedicure is more SEO optimised than ‘cute and chic.’ No one on Pinterest is looking for ‘cute and chic’
Cute manicures? Maybe. Chic nails? Probably. But cute board names don’t work if you want an SEO optimized Pinterest profile.
5. Create New Pins
Gone are the days of easy Pinterest traffic. In January 2020, Tailwind announced that Pinterest was favouring new pins in comparison to old pins. Moreover, pinning the same thing, again and again, is spamming your followers and the home feed.
In this regard, it’s wise to create 10 pins for each blog post. You can choose to work with one blogpost at a time. If this is too overwhelming, learn how to create great article headlines then use this knowledge to create great rich pins.
Each new pin I add on my profile can get 1.4K impressions once it’s live, while an old pin gets 30 to 300 impressions. There’s definitely some truth behind Tailwind’s announcement.
Pinterest is a visual platform. Aim for bright colours and mix fonts. Don’t mix more than three fonts. One of the Pinterest metrics is ‘close-ups.’ Which is the number of times someone hovered on your pin before clicking to go to the site or view it.
Your pin is, therefore, fighting for attention, so optimize it in a way it stands out.
6. Invest In Tailwind
I cannot emphasize this enough. Tailwind works wonders for my site and it can work for your site too if your blog traffic is in a comma. The most important features in Tailwind are Tribes, Publisher, and insights.
On publisher, you create drafts and publish them. Alternatively, you can add pins to smart-loop. Smart-loop enables you to pin evergreen content on a daily basis, at times when your profile has high engagement.
Moreover, you can add your pins to Tribes before scheduling them. There is one general tribe called (Welcome to Tribes), where anyone on Tailwind can add content. The idea behind tribes is to repin and reshare pins from other bloggers to help each other optimize for traffic.
Tailwind is the way to go if you want to have viral pins.
At insights, you can see how your pins and profile are performing, reschedule top performing pins, and optimize further.
I would not wish to overwhelm you further, but these 6 steps will get you started on Pinterest and Pinterest traffic.
Do you use Tailwind and Pinterest and how many users does it bring you in a month? Which Pinterest strategies do you use to rake in traffic?
