I was going through the internet, where I stumbled upon call for application for Stipendium Hangaricum 2018/2019 and it had posted by the ministry of education of Kenya. I had been in a look for scholarships and downloaded the pdf and I met the requirements. After application and doing all the necessary interviews I passed and now in the university of Debrecen pursuing a bachelors in Professional Pilot.

So, What is Stipendium Hangaricum?

It is a program that is run by the  Tempus Foundation (TPF) where by countries that have signed a bilateral agreement with Hungary can have their citizens participate in the scholarship competition. Not all countries have this agreement with the Hungarian government and therefore citizens cannot participate. If your county has an agreement with the Hungarian government then your country is now called (sending partner).

What Are The Scholarship Application Requirements?

The requirements are set by the sending partner. Different countries have different requirements.

What Is The Application Process?

Application starts on late November of every year and end on January 15(subject to change). From here processing starts. You always have to make copy of your online application and take it to your sending partner where they will guide you. The procedure is different from one country to another. This is the application link.
You must apply on the above link website. while you are applying you will need the following

• High school diploma certificate / slip
• Passport
• Passport photo (soft copy)
• General Medical certificate
• References (email of the person referencing)- he has to refer you before deadline.
• Transcripts
• English proficiency (Kenyans not needed)

Always remember to submit the copy of the online application to the sending partner.

What Happens When You Don’t  Have All The Documents?

If you do not have all the documents with you do not worry, just make a declaration on the system that you will upload the documents. But you can upload the once you have like your national identity card and then upload a passport later. You can also upload your high school certificate.
For me I started with what I had such as my national Id and my high school diploma certificate.
The deadline for uploading is August 1 of the same year (subject to change).

Talking To Referees

I already talked about references and once your referee has completed filling a form from stipendium Hangaricum you should get an email like the one below:
 

Hi “your name” Your referee (referee) has just finished working on your reference and it has been successfully submitted. Please note that as the reference is confidential, you will not be able to see it.

 

Receival of The Scholarship Application

Two weeks after submitting my application, I received an email saying that they had received an email below:

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme. We hereby wish to confirm that you have submitted your application successfully and we have registered it.

Please be advised about the following:

• Our office has run a technical check after the application deadline. Applicants are only notified about its result if there is a problem.
• If you meet all of our formal requirements, your application is forwarded to the Sending Partner office without informing you about it.

The Sending Partners are expected to do the pre-selection until the end of February. They need to select those applicants – sometimes from among hundreds – who meet the criteria that the partner office set. Please do not contact these offices during the period of pre-selection. We will inform you about its result anyway in the course of March.

As soon as we receive the list of those students from our Partners whom they wish to nominate for the scholarship programme based on the quota available, we will let all the applicants know if they were nominated or not. However, only nominated students and reserve candidates will be able to continue the application process: their documents will be forwarded to the universities/colleges which were selected in the first place.

It means that we kindly ask for your patience until March.

Please also note that in case you have requested a reference letter via the Dream Apply application system (in the References tab), you are no longer able to see your references that you received. However, please note that they are still in the system; therefore they will indeed be considered when evaluating your application. Please note that this Reference tab was not available for applicants of all study programmes. Besides, you are still able to see all recommendation letters (and other documents) that were uploaded as separate files in the Documents tab of the application form. Therefore, it is the References tab that has been inactivated.

As we have received thousands of applications, we are not able to make the procedure any faster, and it also slows the process down if you contact our or the Sending Partner’s office with individual inquiries about the status of your application. If you do not receive any notification until the end of March though, do not hesitate to contact us. Until March, we strongly advise you to follow our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/studyinhungaryofficial/) and study our website (studyinhungary.hu/) where you can find useful posts and news.

This means that we now have succeeded in application and now have to wait for the sending partners to call you for an interview.

The Scholarship Interview at The Ministry Of Education

So, I was called by the ministry of education for an interview about the scholarship. Remember I told you about submitting a copy of the online application to the sending partners office, this where it comes in handy. If you submit then you get interviewed and therefore nominated.
Again, I know you are wondering the questions they asked. So, they basically the following:

• The about yourself question.
• Where am choosing Pilot course, which was what I chose.
• Facts about Hungary (Location, Cities, neighboring countries).
• Facts about Kenya ((Arms of government, General knowledge about Kenya (Sending partner)).

These questions are subject to change.
I passed the interview and I got nominated. The email is as follows:

Dear Applicant,

We are happy to inform you that you have been nominated for the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme by the Sending Partner in your country/territory. It means that your application materials will be forwarded to the universities/colleges that you selected.

In the course of March, April and the first part of May, the higher education institutions will contact you about the entrance examinations, therefore we kindly ask you to check your emails regularly and be available on skype.

During the entrance examination process, the universities may require you to present certain documents that you could not submit in the online system until the application deadline. You are able to upload these missing documents to the system now. If you still do not have them though, you will have the chance to upload them until 1st August 2019 as the latest. Please note that all obligatory documents listed in the Call for Applications need to be uploaded to the system until this deadline.

We hereby wish to call your attention to the fact that a successful entrance examination result does not mean that you will be awarded the scholarship automatically, however, it is an essential prerequisite. The Board of Trustees of Tempus Public Foundation will make the decision on awarding the scholarship and you can expect the official notification about it by the end of June.

Please consult the following timeline about the next phases of the application process:

As applicants can apply for up to two study programmes, the institutional examinations are conducted in two rounds.

1. Firstly, the applications for the first selected study programmes are considered by the universities. The examination process for the first selected programmes can be expected from 18 March to 30 April 2019, however the dates are indicative.
2. Secondly, the applications for the second selected study programmes are considered. The examination process for the second selected programmes can be expected from 18 March to 20 May 2019, however the dates are indicative.

The applicants will be informed about the application results around the end of June 2019 (please see the timeline at Section 3.4.3 of the Call for Applications). Please note that we are not able to reply to individual requests asking for the results. We will inform all applicants as soon as the decision is made, thank you for your patience.

2 Months After The Entrance exams

This is the final place where the TPF makes a decision depending on what the think of you mainly using the entrance exam to award the exam. TPF can

• Award the scholarship (accept the scholarship in 2 weeks’ time and you are good to go) if you decline the scholarship it awarded to someone on reserve.

• Conditionally award the scholarship (Meet the condition like upload a missing document and get fully award status otherwise someone in reserve will take your position).

• Put you on reserve list (wait for someone to decline the scholarship and get their position).

• Decline you the scholarship (Try again next time).

 

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX,

We are happy to inform you that you have been accepted by the Hungarian higher education institution to a programme you have selected in your application.

As a result, you are awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, which means that your study period in Hungary starts from the academic year of 2019-2020.

To see your future host institution and the study programme that you have been admitted to, we kindly ask you to enter the online application system: apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu

AS THE NEXT STEP, YOU MUST ACCEPT THE STIPENDIUM HUNGARICUM SCHOLARSHIP IN THE SYSTEM. YOU HAVE 2 WEEKS FOR THIS. IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT YOUR SCHOLARSHIP OFFER IN 2 WEEKS, THEN, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOSE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP FOR THIS APPLICATION ROUND.

You will see the following at the top of the screen:

„You have received 1 reply.
Make or edit your final decision.”

After you click on it, you will be able to accept the scholarship in 3 steps.

Let us call your attention to the fact that you can only consider one study programme for decision: the one where you see Scholarship awarded. Please note that there is only one scholarship place offered for each applicant, therefore you should not wait for another scholarship offer.

Once you have accepted the scholarship, the university will issue and send you your institutional Letter of Admission. After receiving the Letter of Admission, Tempus Public Foundation will send you your Letter of Award to your email address and you can also download it from the inbox of your application’s account.

After Accepting The Scholarship

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
We have received your confirmation about accepting the study offer and are glad that you have decided to start your studies at University of Debrecen !
We hereby wish to inform you that you have accepted your Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship. It means that you are expected to start your study programme from the academic year of 2019-20 at University of Debrecen!
You can expect to receive your Letter of Admission from your host institution within a few days. Till then, we kindly ask for your patience.
